missing charm

I completed my challenges today and received an award. It was a black dog charm. It did not show in my charm list. What happened to it? Is there a way to retrieve it?

  The black dog is not a charm it is a pet.  Look at your avatars then click on PETS and it should be there

  On my reward line the black dog is not a charm it's an avatar pet. I got it and it's in my pet collection under Avatars.
